How heart-warming, in these days of eternal conflict, to find vast herds of mighty creatures capable of living in harmony within their own, and with other, species. These are the Ungulates, the grazers and browsers.

The five orders of land-based ungulates comprise (i) the Aardvark (Tubulidentata) (ii) Hyraxes (Hyracoidea), (iii) Proboscids (Proboscidea) (elephants) (iv) Odd-toed ungulates (Perissodactyla) (wild ass, zebra, rhinoceros) (v) Even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla) (hippopotamus, pig, (bushpig, warthog etc), giraffe, bovines (oxen and spiral-horned bovines – nyala, kudu and eland) and antelopes, sheep (Barbary) and goats (Nubian ibex).

This poster depicts 111 species of Ungulates superbly illustrated by Jonathan Kingdon.
